Failing The Driving Test Too Much

When it comes to learning to drive, there are a lot of potential setbacks that you may face. These might include struggling with the theory test, or perhaps some issues with your driving instructor, or maybe even the cost of learning to drive in the first place.

One such setback is failing the driving test. It can be incredibly frustrating to come so close, just to fail by one small mistake – Especially if it’s not your first time failing. Many drivers attempt the practical test repeatedly over several years or more, and keep trying and practising until they get it right.

Driving In Different Areas

Once you pass your driving test, you are likely to realise that passing the test is actually only the first step in becoming a fully experienced, and fully safe driver. Most of the learning curve from the first lesson all the way until attaining a status as a “safe driver” takes place in the months and years after finally getting your pink license.

One such tip we can teach you is about driving in different areas. If your local area is a small suburban town, you may be perfect at driving around the familiar roads – But how do you fare when it comes to high volume, bust traffic in an urban city environment, or on rural countryside lanes? Make sure to adjust your driving style as necessary to suit your driving environment.

The Responsibility of Driving

Passing your driving test can be a fantastic experience – Not only does it give you the freedom to take to the roads without a parent or driving instructor beside you, it also gives you the privilege of being a fully qualified driver, as opposed to a driving pupil.

However this privilege is also a serious responsibility. When you get out in your car on the roads, you are responsible for your own life, as well as the lives of any passengers in your car and of other road users and pedestrians around you, wherever you are driving. Make sure that you accept this responsibility, and always drive accordingly.

Keep A Clean Car

When it comes to driving, you really need to make sure that you keep your utmost concentration at all times. This can be easier said that done however, with all of the various distractions that can occur at any time when you are out and about behind the wheel.

One distraction that you definitely don’t need however – And one that you are in full control of too – Is the cleanliness of your car. Over time, cars can collect all manner of junk and rubbish, from empty drinks bottles and cans to fast food wrappers and much more, but this mess is likely to offer more of a distraction to your driving – Besides, no-one really likes sitting in a messy car, do they?

The Important of Perseverance

Learning to drive can be a long, arduous process. From the moment you book your first driving lesson, all the way through your Theory Test and Practical Test until you become a fully qualified driver, there are various trials and tribulations and obstacles to overcome on the way to getting onto the road.

Unfortunately we find many of those who struggle with learning to drive often find it easier to give up part way through the learning curve. Whilst it might be tempting to save money and time, and to avoid the challenges of driving lessons and tests, we cannot stress enough how important it is to keep trying and trying, no matter how hard it seems – One day it will all be worth it.

Indicator Danger

When you’re driving on the roads amongst traffic, you need to make sure that you are driving both cautiously and in a considerate way. This means that you need to think about other drivers as well as yourself, and drive with due care and attention, and try your best to communicate effectively with other road users.

The main way you can do this is by using your indicators. All too often we see drivers turning without warning, with no indication of their planned manoeuvre, which can be dangerous for the drivers behind as they have to react quickly. Likewise, make sure to cancel your indicators after turning into junctions, to avoid giving any mixed signals to other drivers.

Listening When Driving

A lot of factors can influence how well you drive (Or how badly!), from your experience behind the wheel to your familiarity with the car you are in, to even how well or how alert you feel on the day – Believe us, we have seen some great drivers under-perform simply because of having a cold or being tired!

Although we all know good observation is key when driving, one thing many people miss is the importance of listening when driving. Can you heard road works ahead? Better expect some traffic. Is there a siren in the distance behind you? Start planning to move your car safely out of the way of an emergency vehicle. Is the other half shouting that you missed the turning? Well, maybe you should have been listening.

The Importance Of Observations

There are many things that driving test examiners will be looking for when you are sitting the practical test. Amongst these are elements such as good control of the car, including the accelerator, clutch, brakes and gears, and good understanding of road signs, and especially the vital factor of good observation.

As it turns out, poor observation is actually one of the things most people will fail their test for. Bear this in mind when practising for the practical test, and try to challenge yourself to improve your observation with each mock test – And good luck for the test!

Revising For The Theory Test

There are few as daunting prospects in life as learning to drive. From booking the first driving lesson, all the way through practising your manoeuvres and eventually booking the practical test, there are quite a few obstacles in the way for learner drivers.

One such speed-bump on the road to becoming a qualified driver is passing the driving theory test – Although the key to this is surprisingly simple: Practise. The old cliche rings true here, as the more practise you have on your theory, the more likely you are to pass – Simple!

Watch Out For Junctions

For the most part, driving a car is not actually that difficult. Of course, there is a learning curve associated with picking up the basics, and eventually mastering skills such as the more advanced manoeuvres to the level required to pass the driving test, but actually making the car move is relatively easy.

The hard part is learning to drive amongst other road users. Nowhere is this more important than at road junctions – When you need to watch out for drivers pulling out in front of you unexpectedly, or to keep an eye open for a safe gap in the traffic for you to pull out without any danger to yourself or others.
