Stay In Control In Dangerous Weather

With the rest of the country now firmly in the grip of the Beast from the East, it is imperative that we, as responsible drivers, are all aware of how to handle these more extreme weather conditions to ensure that we are all as safe as possible when behind the wheel.

Make sure to stay in full control of your vehicle at all times – When the roads are slippery, it is all too easy to skid, so make sure to driver at lower speeds, especially when turning a corner and ease gently in and out of the bend.

Driving In A Blizzard

We are all now more than familiar with the “beast from the east” – The unexpected and sudden snowstorm coming into the UK from Eastwards, covering most of Britain from head to foot in a thick blanket of snow.

What to do if you are caught out driving in such a blizzard? Always make sure to drive much slower and more carefully yo accommodate for the harsh conditions, and prepare your car for breaking down in winter, so that should the worst happen, you will be prepared.

Don’t Delay – Start Driving Today!

One of the main problems we find with learner drivers is that many delay starting the process of learning to drive, or applying for their Theory or Practical Driving Tests. This may be down to nerves about getting behind the wheel, or a lack of confidence with tackling the tests, or even financial worries.

However we would advise to go for learning to drive as soon as possible, and to put in for the tests when your instructor says you are ready. The sooner you get these milestones out of the way, the happier you will feel without that hanging over your head – And we’re sure that will be a load off your mind!

Stay Happy When Driving

We all know that driving can sometimes be more of a chore than an enjoyable activity. Especially when you’re stuck in traffic, perhaps on the morning commute, or running late for an appointment, it can certainly add some stress to your day that we’re sure you could do without.

Our advice is to not let driving get you down – Stay positive behind the wheel, even if things aren’t going entirely to plan. Try to plan ahead to optimise your routes, and always leave early for a journey to give yourself more time than you need, and that should help you stay happy when you’re driving.

Drive With Caution All The Time

As a driver, you are likely more than aware of potential hazards that can befall you in your day-to-day driving. Whether it be adverse weather conditions, dangerous road users, or even problems with your own vehicle, there are certainly no shortage of dangers to drivers.

Our best piece of advice we can offer? Drive safely, all the time. Whether it’s daytime, night time, in the week, the weekend, Summer or Winter, it doesn’t matter – The responsibility of being a driver requires you to give your utmost attention to being behind the wheel at all times.

Waiting In The Car

After you’ve been driving for a while, you tend to become very familiar with your vehicle – Aside from driving, many of us eat, drink, work, socialise and even sleep in our cars, so we tend to be very comfortable when in the driving seat.

One aspect of driving that many don’t seem to think about too much however is waiting in the car. Perhaps picking up the partner from school, a friend from their home, or the kids from school – Wherever you are waiting, make sure to always park in a safe area and to keep an eye out around you at all times.

Stopping At A Red Light

Sometimes driving can be a stressful activity – Especially when we’re in a rush somewhere. Perhaps you’ve been stuck in rush hour traffic on your morning commute, or maybe you’re running late for an important appointment, and are trying to make up for lost time.

Whatever the reason, there is no excuse for not stopping at a red light. Traffic lights exist for the safety of all around, drivers and pedestrians alike, and not only is failing to stop at a red light a criminal offence, it risks putting innocent lives at risk.

Smarter Drivers Are Safer Drivers

Many people tend to think of driving as a physical activity – Of course, most drivers are sat down whilst behind the wheel (Or they could be breaking a law!), yet most still think that operating a car is more physically demanding than mentally.

Yet we’re here to challenge that notion. We at Britannia believe that the best drivers are those that are smart behind the wheel – Practising smart driving makes you safer, allowing you to anticipate dangers far earlier than those who are just fast at responding to them later on. So be a safe driver – Be a smart driver.

Courteous Driving Tips

In a lot of ways, the act of driving reflects life in general. Sometimes easy, sometimes difficult, sometimes pleasant and enjoyable, sometimes a chore or stressful – And always much better in the summer than the winter!

Just life in our day-to-day lives, it is always better to be courteous when behind the wheel. Don’t overtake slower drivers, give them the time to get where they need without any additional pressure, and if you see a fellow driver struggling to exit a junction, why not slow down and allow them to leave safely? We’re sure you would be glad if it was the other way around.
