Waymo Launch Self Driving Car

Waymo has introduced a small self-driving service in the Phoenix area after waiting for nearly a decade.

Marking a significant milestone after working secretively with Google in 2009. Since then, the cars have been tracked more than 10 million miles on public roads in cities such as Californa and Arizona.

.A human will be behind the wheel in case the robotic vehicle’s malfunction. However, this was not enough to prevent the accident in March in the same area. Uber hit and killed a pedestrian crossing a darkened street in Tempe, Arizona, seven months ago.

What are your thoughts? Do you question the public safety of these vehicles? Let us know!

Amazon Alexa in your Car?

Amazon is looking to bring the Alexa personal assistant to autos, helping drivers with mapping and music navigation and to help find the nearest gas station.

You might think, well that’s what I have my phone for? But doesn’t it make more sense inside the car to use your voice? You want to keep your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road, so it makes more sense.

Man Cannot Drive Until the Year 3001

Leonard Davie, 62, was stopped by police in Sydney for a random breath test earlier in July

Police officers found out that his driver’s licence had expired in 1983. A further check revealed he was not allowed to drive until the next millennium. He would be 1,046-years-old when he was allowed to drive again.

Do you Vape and Drive?

People who vape or smoke e-cigarettes whilst driving are at risk of losing their license if their vision is obscured by clouds of vapour.

Police say that an e-cigarette will be treated the same as any handheld electronic device. As such, motorists who are distracted by them, or the clouds of vapour they produce, could face prosecution for driving without due care and attention.

Loosing His Licence in 49 Minutes

“Some things last forever – others not for an hour,” German police wrote in their statement.

The 18-year-old was returning from his successful driving test when officers in the town of Hemer checked his car with a laser speed gun.

He was clocked travelling almost twice the speed limit – at 95km/h (60mph) in a 50km/h (30mph) zone.

The man had four friends in the car with him, regional police in Märkischer Kreis said – and speculated that perhaps he was trying to impress with his driving skills. Now he faces a ban for 4 weeks and can only receive his licence back after ‘expensive retraining’

Oh dear.

UK Vs. US, China & Japan

Today we talk about the on-going self-driving car competition across the whole country and where the UK is in the race. The US, China and Japan have been moving ahead swiftly in the race to put autonomous vehicles on public roads, but new trials in West London perhaps indicate the UK is not that far behind.

A recent survey from OpenText suggests 31% of UK respondents believe there will be more autonomous vehicles on the roads than human-driven ones over the next 10-15 years, though this is down from the 66% who answered the same question positively 12 months ago.

What are your thoughts on the matter?
