One rule to follow is that you need to feel confident, and to accept that you’re going to have to keep on practising until you get it right.

The technique is a structured one that requires practice and a level and determination. You need to remain focused and not lose confidence. It is advised that you should request you go through this manoeuvre many times with your instructor until you are proficient. It doesn’t have to be completed in one complete move, its fine to move backwards and forward to adjust the distance, this is providing that you ensure it is safe and are constantly observing.

Here are some tips that may help:

-Pull up alongside the gap you wish to park in and assure that it’s big enough – allow a minimum of approximately 2ft (60cm) at both ends.
-Move slowly forwards until the back of your car is next to the back of the car parked in front of your space
-Turn the steering wheel to the left, just how far will depend on your cars size (This is best to be first done with a professional instructor).
-Move slowly backwards – using the rear view mirror to keep an eye on the car behind you and the nearside mirror to check the position of the kerb.
-When your car is close to the kerb, your car should be clear of the one in front – turn the steering wheel to the right, to bring the front of your car close.
-Straighten up the wheels by turning the steering wheel to the left.

Drivers are risking fines, disqualification or jail because they do not know the rules on supervising learners, according to the AA.

The law states that somebody supervising a learner driver is effectively in control of the car. It is vital that learner drivers gain suitable supervised experience behind the wheel, to ensure their safety and the safety of other road users. All-round good practice should involve better co-ordination with approved driving instructors, as well-planned private practice can be invaluable.
It gives the novice more experience in all kinds of conditions, thereby reducing the risk of them being involved in a crash once they have passed their test

When it comes to taking the driving test, part of the criteria may involve demonstrating the emergency stop or as it is sometimes referred to, the controlled stop.

You can never be certain that your driving test will involve the emergency stop and there are other manoeuvres that the instructor can choose from. The examiner will now ask you to move off when ready. As this is an emergency stop, in a real-life situation, you would not have time to check the mirrors before stopping. Just as in real-life, do not look in your mirrors before conducting the emergency stop. The examiner is looking for 3 key elements for the emergency stop:
Speed – fast reaction time from releasing the accelerator to applying the brake and clutch
Control – bring the car to a brisk, safe and stationary position under a controlled stop
Observation – ensuring it is safe to move away when completed

We all know that a hill start is a dreaded manoeuvre to master, but with a help of one of great driving instructors you’ll soon be a master at it.

Make sure to first prepare yourself and the vehicle to move off. Ensure that you’re in the first gear, and when using the accelerator that you use more and that the noise is louder than it would on a flat surface. Then the most important step is to find the biting point as on a hill it will change from what it usually is on flat surface, once you find it the biting point, make sure to keep your feet still as to not loose it.

Getting your head round a roundabout can be quite difficult at first, but we promise that’ll you’ll enjoy them soon enough.

When you see a roundabout man sure that you are prepared and in the correct lane to take the requested exit. Read the roadsigns and the signs on the floor and the roundabout to ensure that you’re in the correct lane. (Although if you do take the wrong exit, thats fine as long as you make sure not to panic and change lanes at the last second). Also make sure that the roundabout you’ll be getting on to is clear, look to the right quarter and ensure you have time and space to enter, do not feel in a rush to enter the roundabout, take your time.
