Bay parking top tips! (Part 1)

Bay parking is one of the potential manoeuvres that could be chosen for you in your test, and it is a manoeuvre that many learners fear. But with our top tips, you’ll be ready!

There are 3 key points that you should remember the first being that 1.) you are in control of the vehicle, the speed the distance and the breaking. All factors that you control. 2.)  Observation is another key aspect of this, you need to always be aware of our surroundings. To need to observe all around the car just simply glancing in the rear view mirror will not do, you have to make sure its safe for you to move and that there are no other road users around or approaching. 3.) Accuracy, this will improve with practice and determination. You must ensure when you park the vehicle that there is an almost equal gap on either side, so that other can park and get in and out of vehicles safely.

Eco driving tips to drive by!

With the changes and advances that car manufactures are making to not only create efficient cars but also cars running on alternative fuel types. Ensuring that you are driving in an eco friendly manner is important.

We have some tips just for you. First you may be wondering what eco driving is? It is to look ahead, drive smoothly and avoid acceleration and heavy braking. This saves wear and tear on the car and makes for a more economic use of fuel. To pay attention to gear changing as being a gear too low will increase the rev count. These may seem like small and simple things but they can have a large impact, plus until eco friendly cars made mandatory its best to try and conserve much fuel as possible.

With our highly trained instructors they will be able to help teach you to drive in an eco friendly manner which will then become habit for you.

Why driving tests changed

The DVLA changed the way driving tests were taken as they wanted to better prepare you for driving once you had passed.

They wanted to incorporate more high speed roads as they realised the best way for you to be prepared was to practice and have your test on them. As this would help you to feel confident as your driving instructor would be there to guide you through it making sure you understands the rules signs and how to follow the bends.

They also added the satnav portion of a test as that is what many cars are built in with and what drivers will use when driving to new locations. Being a new driver you would need to be able to listen and follow the satnav as it is something you will you use in future as some people who learn in silence may find it hard to adapt and listen to the satnav so make sure you let your instructor know if you need further satnav lessons.

Country Road

Driving on country roads can be nerve raking for many people, especially first time drivers as no one country roads.

These roads often have sharp bends and blind bends which can hide unexpected hazards. Stay in control and give yourself time to reacted is the same as the others. A vital part of driving on country roads its travelling at a speed in which you can control, making sure that you read the road signs ahead as these will tell you if the road ahead will be narrow or have sharp bends. And always keep in mind that weather conditions will effect country roads more as they are not upkept at the same standard of main roads. This is why it is important to have an instructor you trust and one that is qualified for your first journey.

Conquer your Parallel Parking fears

One rule to follow is that you need to feel confident, and to accept that you’re going to have to keep on practising until you get it right.

The technique is a structured one that requires practice and a level and determination. You need to remain focused and not lose confidence. It is advised that you should request you go through this manoeuvre many times with your instructor until you are proficient. It doesn’t have to be completed in one complete move, its fine to move backwards and forward to adjust the distance, this is providing that you ensure it is safe and are constantly observing.

Here are some tips that may help:

-Pull up alongside the gap you wish to park in and assure that it’s big enough – allow a minimum of approximately 2ft (60cm) at both ends.
-Move slowly forwards until the back of your car is next to the back of the car parked in front of your space
-Turn the steering wheel to the left, just how far will depend on your cars size (This is best to be first done with a professional instructor).
-Move slowly backwards – using the rear view mirror to keep an eye on the car behind you and the nearside mirror to check the position of the kerb.
-When your car is close to the kerb, your car should be clear of the one in front – turn the steering wheel to the right, to bring the front of your car close.
-Straighten up the wheels by turning the steering wheel to the left.

Be safe and hire a Professional

Drivers are risking fines, disqualification or jail because they do not know the rules on supervising learners, according to the AA.

The law states that somebody supervising a learner driver is effectively in control of the car. It is vital that learner drivers gain suitable supervised experience behind the wheel, to ensure their safety and the safety of other road users. All-round good practice should involve better co-ordination with approved driving instructors, as well-planned private practice can be invaluable.
It gives the novice more experience in all kinds of conditions, thereby reducing the risk of them being involved in a crash once they have passed their test
