Had a Christmas Break?

If you took a break over the Christmas period from having driving lessons because you were just too busy, and you are keen to get back into the flow of things, get in touch and book your next lesson.

You only get better by practising. And if you only have bad memories of your last driving test remember, we have all had bad days, it doesn’t mean we give up, in actual fact it means that we should carry on.

It’s well worth you looking over your theory work as well. Remind yourself of the road signs and speed limits, impress your driving instructor and ask him how to check for water and oil levels on his vehicle.

All these things will ensure you get closer to passing your driving test.

Good luck!

Blue Badge system to be modernised to check fraudulent activities.

It has taken an ugly shape of a nation-wide fraud. The Transport Minister, Norman Baker, has echoed his voice on the growing concerns of people using blue badge to get some free parking space. “Motorists who pretend to be disabled to get some free parking are frankly disgraceful”, he said in an interview. It has come as a shocking news that the standard of social and moral responsibilities have fallen disgracefully. The new blue badge system would prevent people from taking undue or unfair advantages. It would have a new hologram, digital photo and serial number to make it scam-free.

It was an inevitable situation. The set of proposed changes were required to check fraudulent activities. The local authorities have been given more powers to tackle the misuse of badges. These parking places are only reserved for physically challenged people. It is a positive change. It would make the original users a lot happier as they can find ample space to park their vehicles now. It all started as a great initiative taken by the government to help disabled people to park their cars easily however due to certain drawbacks it was started to being misused.

Warning: Do not leave keys in the ignition.

It is a common situation. People often leave keys in the ignition without thinking that it could end-up being stolen in the end. Have you ever thought about it seriously? It is the time because more and more cases have been brought to attention by the concerned authorities. It is not a safe option, under any given circumstances, to leave your car engine in the running mode. It can lead to different life-threatening accidents. A public warning has been issued in the interest by the police. It makes perfect sense to stop the engine and take out keys with you.

You should be in the car while defrosting it. This is the best practice. The car insurance agencies have also made it clear that they would not be able to pay for the damages, if the keys were left in the ignition. There seems to be a hidden message in it. We can save ourselves from unnecessary problems by paying proper attention to it. It can prove to be a costly mistake in the end. You should take out the keys before leaving the car. It is as simple as that

CAN YOU SEE WELL ENOUGH TO DRIVE

A European Parliament report has called for the EU to take action on road safety and one way to do this is to ensure drivers have regular eye tests.

They are looking to get all driver under the age of 65 to have their eyes tested every 10 years and those over 65 ever y 5 years.

Research has shown that more than a quarter of drivers ask passengers to read road signs to them as their eyesight is too poor. The research did show that the average motorist did have regular eye tests every three years which is good to know.

The government are always looking at ways to improve road safety and ensuring that motorists can see properly is surely a key factor.

SEVENTEEN SAW HARRY STYLES LEAD TO STARDOM AND PASS HIS DRIVING TEST

Harry Styles from the band One Direction has achieved his full driving licence after passing his test on 30th December 2011. It was his New Year’s resolution to pass but it seems that he made his New Year’s resolution just a little too early.

He has received comments and praise from fans and family, with his 21 year old sister, saying “It’s awkward when your younger sibling passes their driving test before you” and his bandmate Liam Payne asking for a lift.

It just goes to show that even with a hectic lifestyle you can achieve freedom and pass your test even at the young age of 17.

It’s all Calm

There’s something a little different going into the New Year. Well, let us not exaggerate, there is a big difference. And what’s that? Well, there’s no snow of course. I’m the first to admit that i hated this time last year. I had made all of my New Year’s resolutions (not to be angry as much, stay calm), yet as soon as i walked out to the car facing a mountain of snow to battle against i lost all ambitions to be more like Deepak Chopra.

Even still, if it does snow and there’s a chance it may, follow the usual:

1) Always have an ice scraper in the car

2) Carry some de-icer, i much prefer this to using water which so many people do.

3) Have a blanket packed in the boot

4) Please think about making long car journeys – if you have to go and see a relative far away, pack enough clothes in case you need to camp out there for a while

5) Always, always always travel with a charged phone

6) Remember to have cash on you should you face any emergencies.

PASSING THE PRACTICAL DRIVING TEST

There is sometimes confusion as to how many minor faults you can get without failing and the difference between serious and dangerous faults on a practical test.
You will pass your test:

Without committing any serious or dangerous faults

Without committing more than 15 minor driving errors (16 or more will result in a fail)

Dangerous driving faults are classed as a fault which results in actual danger. Serious driving faults are when a potentially dangerous incident occurs or a candidate repeats a fault several times. Either of these types of faults will result in a fail.

Minor driving faults are less serious faults which don’t prove any immediate danger, such as hesitating at a junction for too long or changing gear too late.

Observation is the thing people most tend to fail on. Whether it be at a junction, checking your mirrors, lack of observation whilst completing a manoeuvre or when moving away. Other mistakes most commonly made are lack of steering control, incorrect use of signals, incorrect positioning or incorrect speed.

To gain insight into what is expected of you on test and how best to prepare for the test, take a look at our tips and hints link on the website.
