Windy Weather Driving

We have all been experiencing the worst of the weather lately – With the winds reaching heights of up to 90 miles per hour and the gales causing havoc across the country, from fallen trees to drivers even losing control of their vehicles on the motorway, it has certainly been quite a storm!

Always remember when driving in windy weather to take extra caution, and not to drive at excessive speeds as if you lose control of your vehicle at high speeds in windy weather, you can put yourself and others in significant danger.

Pass On What You Have Learned

If you are a fully qualified driver, you may well remember the times of learning to drive. Between revising for the theory test and cramming in driving lessons between college and your social life, it can certainly be a daunting time.

Wouldn’t it have been much easier if you had others to help you with this? So why not help others who might otherwise be struggling with learning to drive by passing on some of your knowledge – They might thank you for it one day!

Where You Can Park Safely

Here at Britannia we often talk about the details of what to do when you’re inside the car – From safe driving clothing to the right attitude when you’re behind the wheel, and everything else in between. But we rarely talk about what to do when you’re not actually inside the car.

Yes, when you’re parking, you need to be just as vigilant as when you’re operating your vehicle. For example some areas have strict rules on what time you can park, and others may enforce rules about parking on yellow lines or too close to corners – So make sure you park safely at all times!

Manoeuvres on the Driving Test

Everyone has a completely different experience when it comes to learning to drive. Some may need only a handful of lessons in order to pass first time – Whereas others may struggle more on some of the finer points when it comes to mastering the skills required to get your pink license.

One of the main things many of our students struggle the most on with their driving test is the manoeuvres – Whether that’s reversing around a corner, a turn in the road, or parallel or bay parking. When it comes to these, just remember practise makes perfect – So keep at it, and we know you’ll do great on the day!

Driving Test Changes 2017

Since it’s introduction in 1935, the official UK driving test has undergone many significant changes. From the introduction of a Theory test as a counterpart to the existing practical test and many other changes, both small and large, each update to the driving test is made only to modernise and improve the test – Not to catch candidates out!

This year, the Driving Test will be updated once more, so that the reverse around a corner is no longer a compulsory part of the test – Instead, candidates will need to demonstrate their ability to reverse safely out of a parking bay.

Best of luck with your test!

Problems of Driving Alone

When you first start driving after passing your driving test, you will most likely take to the road with friends and family members for the first few months – Not only for the social side of embracing the freedom that driving gives you, but also to help ease the nerves when first faced with driving.

However unfortunately sometimes you will need to drive on your own. When this is the case, you will need to make sure that you are able and confident enough to make driving decisions on your own without checking with someone else for approval first – After all, you’re in the driving seat!

Driving With a Heavy Load

There are a lot of reasons you could be driving. From the most common reasons of being on a driving lesson, or commuting to or back from work, or driving for leisure with friends – Or you could be behind the wheel for practical reasons, such as helping someone to move house.

In this case, it is likely you are driving with a heavy load in the car. If that’s the case, make sure to take extra care – Not only will the amount of load in the back likely reduce your visibility, but your driving style may well have to change to accommodate the extra weight in the car.

Stay Positive When Driving

As a driver you are probably aware that your mood may well affect how well you can drive. Even if it’s not a full-blown road rage that’s causing you to drive a little more aggressively, sometimes being upset or even stressed can stop you from being at your best when behind the wheel.

We would advise you to always stay positive when driving. Not only will this help to improve how well you actually drive, but it will also help to keep a smile on your face even when not in the car!
