DRIVING TEST EXAMINER IN COURT OVER TEST BRIBES

A DSA examiner from Lincoln has appeared in court to deny taking money and attempting to gain sexual favours in return for passing learner drivers on test.

Mr Cwierzona worked at the Barnet test centre as an examiner and has been accused of attempting to obtain money in exchange for passing pupils, yet he denies all charges.

Four defendants accused of corruption because they had agreed to pay or did pay Mr Cwierzona are also due to appear in court.

The monetary value offered to Mr Cwierzona was thought to be between £80 and £500 from the various learners.

Not only has this examiner defied the DSA and their rules and regulations for passing learners passed on their merit and performance on the day, but he is potentially endangering lives. If these learners felt they were competent enough to pass there would have been no need to pay the examiner.  If Mr Cwierzona had got away with this, we could have many drivers on the road who are not safe.

DRIVING TESTS BROUGHT INTO THE 21ST CENTURY

The DSA (Driving Standards Agency) who conduct all driving tests are set to trial tablet computers in a bid to cut down on paper use and time interpreting the candidate’s data.

At present, an examiner will complete a paper examination form on the day of the test and no matter what the result, the form is sent off to the DSA’s head office in Newcastle to be processed. If a candidate is successful the information then needs to be sent to the DVLA in order for a full licence to be issued.

The tablet computers are hoped to save time, money and speed up the process of obtaining your full licence, not to mention save trees. With the DSA conducting over 1.6million tests last year alone, they needed to review the current old fashioned way of recording test data.

DRIVING FOR 82 YEARS WITHOUT EVER SITTING A TEST

A 100-year-old lady known as Susie Dixon has been driving for the last 82 years, yet has never sat a driving test.

It wasn’t until 1935 that the compulsory driving test was introduced and Susie bought her licence in 1930. She said she learnt in her father’s Bullnose Norris when she was just 18 but said it was a very difficult car to drive.

She has recently undergone an assessment by the DVLA who has granted her to keep her licence for a further three years. She will then have to undergo another assessment every three years.

She said “I have never been in an accident or a speeding ticket in all the time I’ve been driving.”

GO11 DEN, MEN 100M and CYC 111E are just a few examples of the plates due to go on sale at London’s City Hall in June.

The cost of these number plates are not published yet but are thought to fetch thousands.

With some of the plates relating to particular competitors at the Olympics such as DA11 LEY which diver Tom Daley might be interested in, the DVLA will have an auction to remember.

How Well do You Read the Road Signs?

The road signs are put for a reason. The message is always written in a clear voice. It is there for your safety. People often overlook it or do not pay attention at all. What is the issue? We rely too heavily on our knowledge base. We are not ready to believe that it is important to read road signs. We take our experience to serve us a reminder, in case if something is about to go wrong. That is too much to ask! The road signs are easy to read and understand. It is highly advisable to read them whenever you are traveling to a new and different place. It takes one wrong turn to keep on running in circles for hours.

The temporary road signs must be read. This is the only reason that why they have been placed in the first place. There was no other reason behind it. It was done to make people aware about the nature of work being done etc. There would be doubts raised given the high number of accidents taking place all across the country. We must brush-up our knowledge of basic guidelines to ensure safety of every single member traveling on the road.

MUMS THE WORD, BUT WOMEN ARE BETTER DRIVERS ACCORDING TO THEIR KIDS

A report was carried out amongst children aged between 5-16 years to establish who they thought were better drivers, their mum or their dad.

The report published by the GEM Motoring Assist found that the children interviewed preferred mums driving. Mums were found to be the more considerate driver, less likely to suffer road rage and less likely to weave in and out of traffic. However, their children did admit that mums got flustered when it came to basic manoeuvres and were more likely to stall the car.

Dads didn’t win the battle as their kids thought that they were more aggressive drivers, lost their tempers quickly and drove too fast.

60% of the children interviewed said that they were more relaxed when mum was driving.

The report seemed to suggest that children are aware of their parents driving and it’s important not to expose them to bad habits and poor driving.

ROAD WORK DISRUPTION HOPEFULLY REDUCED

Road works cause mayhem for drivers and pedestrians alike and they often seem never ending however, the government have stepped in and introduced fines for companies who fail to complete road works within their committed timeframe.

Companies that go over the allotted time could receive fines of up to £10,000 a day on busy roads. It is hoped the fines will encourage companies to speed things up and finish work on time. Councils will have to spend the fines on transport related policies, hopefully improving our roads further.

High Heels Behind the Wheel: A Combination gone Wrong.

The message is clear! You should act responsibly. The experts are calling out women to stop wearing high heels and other unsuitable shoes while taking on the road. It is considered to be a dangerous practice. It leaves little to the imagination as you can easily lose control and cause an accident. You can carry an extra pair of shoes in the car and change it. It becomes your responsibility to drive safely. It is not worth taking a risk. You should stick to the guidelines no matter how comfortable it feels to be in high heels or flip flops. The increasing rate of accidents taking place has called for immediate actions to be taken.

Gareth Kloet, the head of car insurance at Confused.com has said, “Wearing inappropriate footwear could cause the driver to lose control of the car”. It is a timely warning. The nature of incidents happening from using mobile phones to not wearing safety belts has caused much trouble in the past. It seems that they have another similar issue to tackle here. Women should realise that it is only meant to make them a better driver at the end of a day. There is no harm in adapting to healthy ways of living or driving.
