Drive Safely For Your Passengers

Here at Britannia, a lot of the advice we post on our daily blog is in regards to driving safely in different circumstances. Of course, the safety of our pupils and instructors alike is a prime concern of ours, and should be taken very seriously.

Another factor to consider about driving safely is your passengers – Take their needs into account when you’re behind the wheel. Are they young or old, or perhaps they have a disability? Would erratic driving or speeding be likely to upset or put them at risk in any way?

Safe driving – As always – From Britannia!

Cramming For Your Theory Test

One of the more difficult parts of the process of learning to drive is revising for your theory test – Especially for those of us who are glad to have left school to get away from revising for exams, this can be a particularly arduous task.

Our tip would be to break it down into smaller chunks – Maybe start by tackling the Highway Code, then come down to Hazard Perception and so on – Hopefully that helps to make it a little more interesting!

Moving House Tips

Being able to drive is a very useful skill. Not only does it grant you the freedom of travelling around at your own leisure, it also opens you up to more practical uses – Aside from commuting to work and back, driving allows you to drive to the shops, carry out deliveries, and to move house much easier.

However if you are going to be using your car to move house, there are a few things to consider. Think about the size of your vehicle – Can your car fit the items inside that you are planning, and if so, can it take the additional weight? Also think about being able to see safely out of your mirrors, make sure you are not obstructing your vision!

Passing The Time In Traffic

Being stuck in traffic can be a pain – Not only does it more often than not seem to happen when you most urgently need to be somewhere, it can be frustrating when you seem to be unable to move forward for long periods of time.

So what to do in this predicament? Find ways to pass the time, of course. Always make sure not to lose your concentration on the roads around you (Put that mobile phone away!) but find other ways to pass the time – Listen to music, set your Sat Nav up, or plan the next step of your journey out in your head!

Driving Around Busy Areas

One of the challenges many drivers face on a daily basis is that of competing with other road users – Particularly in busier areas such as built-up towns and city centres. Although it may seem to just require a little more patience than usual, driving in busy areas is actually a different game altogether.

Not only do you have to keep an eye out for other drivers around you, but the additional risk of pedestrians and cyclists adds to the hazards you can face, especially as there is likely to be more people around and consequently more danger. Keep your eyes open at all times!

Stay In Control In Dangerous Weather

With the rest of the country now firmly in the grip of the Beast from the East, it is imperative that we, as responsible drivers, are all aware of how to handle these more extreme weather conditions to ensure that we are all as safe as possible when behind the wheel.

Make sure to stay in full control of your vehicle at all times – When the roads are slippery, it is all too easy to skid, so make sure to driver at lower speeds, especially when turning a corner and ease gently in and out of the bend.

Driving In A Blizzard

We are all now more than familiar with the “beast from the east” – The unexpected and sudden snowstorm coming into the UK from Eastwards, covering most of Britain from head to foot in a thick blanket of snow.

What to do if you are caught out driving in such a blizzard? Always make sure to drive much slower and more carefully yo accommodate for the harsh conditions, and prepare your car for breaking down in winter, so that should the worst happen, you will be prepared.

Don’t Delay – Start Driving Today!

One of the main problems we find with learner drivers is that many delay starting the process of learning to drive, or applying for their Theory or Practical Driving Tests. This may be down to nerves about getting behind the wheel, or a lack of confidence with tackling the tests, or even financial worries.

However we would advise to go for learning to drive as soon as possible, and to put in for the tests when your instructor says you are ready. The sooner you get these milestones out of the way, the happier you will feel without that hanging over your head – And we’re sure that will be a load off your mind!

Stay Happy When Driving

We all know that driving can sometimes be more of a chore than an enjoyable activity. Especially when you’re stuck in traffic, perhaps on the morning commute, or running late for an appointment, it can certainly add some stress to your day that we’re sure you could do without.

Our advice is to not let driving get you down – Stay positive behind the wheel, even if things aren’t going entirely to plan. Try to plan ahead to optimise your routes, and always leave early for a journey to give yourself more time than you need, and that should help you stay happy when you’re driving.
