Stay Warm When Driving

There’s no denying it now – Summer is officially over. Gone are the days of driving with the roof or even windows down, we are now at the start of the winter months, and whilst it may be cosy when you’re cuddled by a warm fire, it is not as much fun when you’re out driving.

Being behind the wheel during the colder point of the year can be a real pain, so remember to prepare well. If you will be out on a long drive, make sure to wrap up well, and take some driving gloves, especially if your steering wheel or gear stick is likely to get cold!

Winter Breakdown Tips

When it comes to being a driver, there is really no good time to break down in your car – Yet somehow it always seems to happen at the most inconvenient time possible, on your way to a big work meeting, or an important family function!

However one of the worst times to suffer a motor breakdown is in the winter – Although the cold temperatures can make this more likely to happen! So always keep an emergency breakdown kit in your car to be prepared for such eventualities – With some food and water, a charged mobile phone and a blanket to keep warm whilst you wait.

The Best Roads For Driving On

Our recent article covered the variety of debates that drivers can (and often do!) have with each other. One such topic that many find it possible to argue about is the best place to drive in their cars.

For many drivers, the thought of motorway driving fills them with dread and fear, with the country roads being a much more preferable experience if they are to be behind a wheel. However others may detest rural roads and stick to motorways for their driving, whilst others still may even prefer the quietness of suburban streets local to home for a relaxing drive.

That’s one of the great things about driving though – With so much room for manoeuvre with the various topics surrounding driving, there’s no right answer – Just many different views.

Daylight Saving Dangers

As most of us are aware, the clocks have gone back one hour in accordance with UK daylight saving – But what does this mean for those of us who are driving?

For starters, it means it will start to get darker earlier at nights – Whilst one hour does not sound like a long time, when it comes to daylight it can make all the difference, with many commuters now stuck in rush hour traffic when on their way home at night throughout the winter.

Hazards of Halloween Driving

We recently ran an article on our top tips for Halloween Driving – However with it being the main event tonight, we here at Britannia Driving School thought it best to reiterate the dangers of being behind the wheel at this time of year.

One main thing to watch out for is other people, particularly those in fancy dress – As they will likely be clad head-to-toe in black and dark clothing for that “scary” effect, unfortunately this makes for poor visibility in the night time, especially when a large amount of people are out trick-or-treating, mostly with younger children.

The Morning Commute

There are a number of times that you really don’t want to be behind the wheel. These might be being stuck in a traffic jam for hours on end (Hardly anyone’s idea of fun!) or for some it might be travelling at higher speeds on the motorway – Understandably stressful for a novice.

But there is none quite as frustrating as the morning commute. This combines everyone’s favourite activity of stop-start traffic along with the added enjoyment of a full day at work to look forward to at the end of your journey! What’s not to love…
