THE SAME CAR FROM 1964 TO 2012

Rachel Veitch paid around $3,300 for her Mercury Comet Caliente in 1964 and has had it ever since. The 93 year old grandmother is looking to sell the car since giving up driving due to her eyesight.

The car has outlasted 18 battery changes, three sets of shock absorbers and eight exhaust mufflers, has travelled 576,000 miles and outlasted three marriages.

Mrs Veitch wants to sell the car to someone that will take care of it, she has refused to pass it down to the younger generations in her family for fear they will not look after it the way she has for so many years. The car is said to be worth around $12,000 today.

With over half a million miles on the clock, this is very impressive however, she does not hold a record for the most miles travelled, not by a long shot.

Mr Gordon who was entered into the Guinness Book of World Records in 1998 had travelled 1.69 million miles in his 1966 Volvo P1800. However, it is reported he still has the same car to date and the mileage is nearer 3 million miles.
