Summer 2017 Is Coming

It only seems a few short week ago when it was so windy you felt as if you were about to be blown off the road!

How quick things can change! If you notice now, the days are getting longer. Before we know it the sun will start making more an appearance and we will be warmer. Remember that different driving conditions mean you need to use different skills to maintain safe driving.

What does the summer mean for drivers?

Well, driving in the summer is different. Instead of ramping up the heating, you’re looking for ways to stay cool. Remember that because windows in cars are so big they let a lot of sun come through. This heat can make you tired and drowsy. The best solution is break up a long journey into something shorter. Always keep a bottle of water in the car with you.

Benefits of Intensive Courses

When it comes to learning to drive, there’s more than one way to go about it. Some pupils may prefer to take their time over the course of a year or more, preparing and practising their driving until they feel confident and able enough to tackle the theory and practical test head-on, with the best chance of success.

However some pupils instead prefer to take it all on in one go – Our intensive courses are just for that. With an intensive (or “crash”) course, you get a high volume of lessons over a short period of time, so if you’re the sort who can handle a lot of information thrown at you very quickly, they might just be right for you.

Windy Weather Driving

We have all been experiencing the worst of the weather lately – With the winds reaching heights of up to 90 miles per hour and the gales causing havoc across the country, from fallen trees to drivers even losing control of their vehicles on the motorway, it has certainly been quite a storm!

Always remember when driving in windy weather to take extra caution, and not to drive at excessive speeds as if you lose control of your vehicle at high speeds in windy weather, you can put yourself and others in significant danger.

Pass On What You Have Learned

If you are a fully qualified driver, you may well remember the times of learning to drive. Between revising for the theory test and cramming in driving lessons between college and your social life, it can certainly be a daunting time.

Wouldn’t it have been much easier if you had others to help you with this? So why not help others who might otherwise be struggling with learning to drive by passing on some of your knowledge – They might thank you for it one day!

As a learner driver, you may well be eager to learn as much as you can about the skill of being behind the wheel. IT may be to do with mastering those manoeuvres or getting to grips with clutch control – Or it could be finally cracking the highway code!

Whatever it is you’re struggling on, Britannia can help. If you need to practise for your Theory test or want to get in an intensive driving course to cram for your practical, or if you even want to hone your driving skills further after passing your test, Britannia is your go-to driving school.

Cleaning Your Car Interior

As regular drivers, you’re probably aware that there’s a lot of things that can put you off when you’re behind the wheel – Whether that’s children in the back seats or the dangers of other road users, or even the hazardous weather conditions!

However more of us than we would probably like to admit actually suffer from having a cluttered car interior – Whilst this is unsightly, it actually poses a greater danger of potentially obstructing your driving and making you a danger on the roads, so make sure to keep the inside of your car clean at all times!

Where You Can Park Safely

Here at Britannia we often talk about the details of what to do when you’re inside the car – From safe driving clothing to the right attitude when you’re behind the wheel, and everything else in between. But we rarely talk about what to do when you’re not actually inside the car.

Yes, when you’re parking, you need to be just as vigilant as when you’re operating your vehicle. For example some areas have strict rules on what time you can park, and others may enforce rules about parking on yellow lines or too close to corners – So make sure you park safely at all times!

Manoeuvres on the Driving Test

Everyone has a completely different experience when it comes to learning to drive. Some may need only a handful of lessons in order to pass first time – Whereas others may struggle more on some of the finer points when it comes to mastering the skills required to get your pink license.

One of the main things many of our students struggle the most on with their driving test is the manoeuvres – Whether that’s reversing around a corner, a turn in the road, or parallel or bay parking. When it comes to these, just remember practise makes perfect – So keep at it, and we know you’ll do great on the day!

Overcoming Driving Anxiety

Learner drivers often struggle to adjust to the challenge of learning to drive. After all, there is a lot to learn – From the various manoeuvres, memorising the highway code, and adjusting your driving style for different road conditions – But one thing you definitely don’t need holding you back is driving anxiety.

Here at Britannia we have a lot of experience working with nervous driving pupils, and we do our best to help boost your confidence behind the wheel and to overcome any fear you may have of driving – And we’re sure we can do the same for you too!

Driving Test Changes 2017

Since it’s introduction in 1935, the official UK driving test has undergone many significant changes. From the introduction of a Theory test as a counterpart to the existing practical test and many other changes, both small and large, each update to the driving test is made only to modernise and improve the test – Not to catch candidates out!

This year, the Driving Test will be updated once more, so that the reverse around a corner is no longer a compulsory part of the test – Instead, candidates will need to demonstrate their ability to reverse safely out of a parking bay.

Best of luck with your test!
