Do you ever feel tense or intimidated when driving?
Whether it’s commuting, popping to the shops, or taking the kids out, driving is an essential part of personal, family and work life for millions of us. And that’s part of the problem: with so many drivers on the road today, what should be a useful quick way from A to B, or a leisurely drive on quieter roads, can too often feel more like a stressful chore. Sometimes you completely forget the thrill you got when you passed your driving test!
What’s the point of a Refresher Driving Course?
It will help you become a better, safer and more confident driver. Re-learning safe driving principles reduces the risk to yourself and your passengers – and automatically to other road users. It’s a quick, easy and useful way to update your driving skills and get impartial advice from a professional driving instructor.
How can a Refresher Driving Course help me save money and reduce my carbon footprint?
Driving safely and competently actually saves you money by avoiding wear and tear on the car which bad driving (e.g. clumsy gear changes, lack of knowledge of how the engine works) brings. You can “go greener” too – the more you learn about the mechanics, the more you can make informed decisions about what kind of vehicle and fuel you should use to help reduce those carbon emissions.
What other benefits are there?
Increased confidence – many accidents are caused by indecisiveness. Careful confidence means you can deal with other drivers on the road – and learn how to avoid the bad ones!
Increased enjoyment – secure behind the wheel, you can get back to the days when you actually got a buzz from driving.

Most of the information already on the Britannia Driving Schools website will apply to you, but there are a few things you might have to take into consideration:
How do I know I’m ready for the challenge?
Every driver would benefit from a Refresher Driving Course. We all develop our own driving style and bad habits over time. Many of us would fail our Driving Test if we re-took it today. And you might be driving a completely different vehicle to the one in which you took your test. Boy (or Girl) Racer no longer, you may be driving a car twice the size of your first motor, and maybe one that’s more of a challenge to handle.
Who are the courses designed for?
At Britannia Driving School, with this course we look after the anxious or nervous, people who have not driven for a long time, or international drivers who need to become accustomed to driving on the left – anyone in fact who knows that we all need a little help sometimes. All Refresher Courses are designed on an individual basis after assessment by a professional instructor.
How many lessons will I need?
It depends entirely on you. Most people choose a 6 hour Refresher Course, and assess for themselves how much more help they might need. There is absolutely no pressure on you at any stage to take more lessons than you want or need.
How much will it cost?
We know that all your lessons at Britannia Driving School are an investment in the future of happy driving. With one of our registered driving instructors, the cost for a 6 hour course would be £137.70 (£22.95 per hour) in a manual car and £149.70 (£24.95 per hour) in an automatic.
But is it worth it?
Don’t just take our word for it.
Refresher Courses have helped so many people. Here’s what one satisfied customer had to say:
“Soon after passing my driving test, I had a minor accident; this made me lose my confidence and as a result I gave up driving. I did not drive for a number of years, and then I got a job which required me to drive. I booked a Refresher Driving Course with Britannia Driving School. Simon, my instructor helped restore my confidence with reassurance and praise (when it was due) without ever being patronising or condescending”. Mrs S Clarke
