Making The Right Driving Decisions

Ask anyone what the key to good driving is, and you will likely get a variety of different answers. Some may say that good steering is the root of being safe behind the wheel, whereas others may say a good knowledge of driving theory is vital – It’s quite a divisive subject.

However one thing we can all agree on is that driving decisions are one of the most important skills to learn. Knowing how to approach a bend in the road, or how to react quickly yet safely when faced with a sudden emergency may be the difference between being a good driver or bad.

Declutter Your Car

We have all experienced some form of driving hazards – Whether it’s other drivers travelling at high speeds putting yourself and others in danger, or adverse weather conditions making the roads unsafe to be on, it is essential to be safe when behind the wheel.

One hazard many aren’t aware of if the danger of clutter in the car. Loose objects and rubbish sliding about on the back seats, in the doors, on the floors, in the boot or on the dashboard can cause major distractions – And it only takes one second of distraction to cause an accident.

Driving With Pedestrians

Driving a car presents many challenges to even the most experienced road user. From the initial phase of learning to drive and passing the driving test, all the way up to mastering motorways and more, you never really stop learning as a driver.

One challenge many may face is when you’re faced with driving in a crowd of people, amongst pedestrians. When doing this, it is vital to keep speed at a minimum to avoid the risk of collision with any unsuspecting people, and also beware of any children who may step out in front of your moving car without warning.

Driving Impairments

As any experienced driver will tell you, when you get behind the wheel, you are not only in the literal driver’s seat, but also in a position of responsibility. That means making sure you are always fit to drive and up to the job when you’re behind the wheel.

This does not only mean to not drink or take drugs when driving – There are a number of other impairments that could reduce your ability to drive safely, such as being tired when driving, feeling ill or under the weather, or even something as simple as being dehydrated on a long drive.

Influences of Driving

When it comes to driving, there’s a lot of places one could pick up their inspiration. Primarily youngsters will tend to learn driving from their parents and elder family members – Even leading to picking up bad habits! – As well as their driving instructor, who will be a vital part of one’s experience of learning to drive.

But where else could a learner driver be influenced from? As it turns out, almost anywhere – With stars such as Lewis Hamilton putting driving on the map, as well as movies, TV and music glamorising being behind the wheel – And even in a negative way, such as the claims that Santa Claus promotes drink-driving!

The Driving Age

The world of driving causes a variety of debates to take place – From the introduction of new and controversial new laws, to the rules of drink and drug driving, and even the impending rise of the self-driving cars, there’s certainly no shortage of topics for discussion.

One such topic is that of the driving age – Whilst some call for the age to be lowered to allow teens to take to the roads at an earlier age, others contest that it is already too low, leading to a high amount of road traffic accidents involving teenagers.

What Learning To Drive Teaches You

There is a lot to learn when it comes to learning to drive. Whether it’s clutch control that trips you up or mastering the manoeuvres that you find the trickiest, every learner driver approaches the process in a different way and therefore experiences an entirely different learning curve to others.

Some may find that learning to drive teaches them to be more aware of their surroundings – Indeed, making your way through busy traffic can encourage you to be on your guard, even when not in the car. Others however may come to know their surrounding areas better than they thought, and may find their confidence improved as a result of this.

Planning Your Driving Lessons

When it comes to learning to drive, preparation is everything. For example, it is usually best not to start your driving lessons if you don’t have the intention of taking your test at the end of it – Otherwise you may be just be wasting your own time and money.

Likewise, each individual lesson needs to be prepared for correctly. Obviously make sure you are fit to drive for all reasons, and that you are wearing the correct clothing – But also try to think about what driving skills you need to sharpen up on, and let your instructor know this so that you can focus only on what you need to do to pass your test.

What Does Driving Mean To You?

Driving can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people. For some, it is simply a means of transport, of getting from A to B as quickly and conveniently as possible – For others, it is a way of life, and any minute not spent tinkering with their beloved automobile is a minute wasted!

Many youngsters find driving to be a thrill, an exciting adventure of passing the driving test and taking to the roads with your friends – Whereas for those that drive for a living, driving can be a tedious chore, one that you are happy to see the back of at the end of each working day!
